St Nicholas Pathways
As an agency of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, St Nicholas Pathways is committed to upholding family life as the foundation of society and the Church. As part of this commitment, St Nicholas Pathways’ Maitland facility serves as the setting for a playgroup hosted and organised by CatholicCare Hunter-Manning.
Unlike community-led playgroups, St Nicholas Pathways co-ordinates and facilitates Monday - Friday playgroups so parents and carers simply arrive at the facility ready for their child to play and interact with other children.
For parents and carers, this means there is no setting up or tearing down of the play space, no need to liaise with the manager of the facility, and no need to try and co-ordinate a group of already busy parents and carers. This takes all the work out of running the playgroup while still providing a valuable opportunity for mums and dads to share and network with one another and to socialise with other parents and carers.
This socialisation allows parents time to share their experiences, parenting ideas, and to offer support to one another in their parenting journey.
As part of their training, St Nicholas Pathways students will be rostered to co-ordinate the daily playgroup. This provides students with experience is setting up provocations which engage and delight children.
